The best golfer in the world turns 26 today, after a commanding performance in the WGC-Cadillac Match Play Championship this weekend, winning seven matches in a row (exhausting!) en route to his victory. Although I was rooting for Gary Woodland in the final match - it would have been by far the biggest victory of his career - I am never displeased to see Rory win, either. He is amazing.
After witnessing 21-year-old [Jordan] Spieth’s towering achievement at Augusta, winning from wire to wire, McIlroy was responding in kind, laying down his own substantial marker as the season builds towards the second major of the year, the US Open at Chambers Bay next month. “I think everyone, not just me, but everyone on Tour was inspired seeing Jordan do what he did at Augusta,” he said.
